China's new import quality rules for certain recyclable materials have sparked a lot of discussion in our industry. The program, called National Sword, focuses on mixed paper, plastics 3-7 and bulky rigids. It reflects China's continued effort to reduce contamination coming into the country. The changes have generated questions about markets for these materials and the implications for recycling efforts across the U.S.
There are two upcoming webinars that discuss National Sword that you may be interested in attending (see information below) and we would encourage you to do so as local programs in Florida could be impacted:

National Sword: What is It and How will it Impact My Program? Hosted by The Recycling Partnership
It has grabbed numerous headlines, but what is China's National Sword? This webinar will give a critical update on what China's scrap ban and customs enforcement actions are, where it came from, the potential impact on markets, MRFs, and local programs, and methods for managing and messaging the potential impacts, especially in the short-term.
This interactive webinar will communicate critical information from brokers, MRFs, and other industry experts. They will shed light on what you need to know, then open the floor to your questions.

China's Green Sword: Impacts to State and Local Governments, Hosted by U.S. EPA
In a July 18, 2017 filing with the World Trade Organization (WTO), China's Ministry of Environmental Protection announced that the country will prohibit the importation of some grades of recovered paper and plastic by the end of 2017. The WTO filing highlights the Chinese government's efforts to clamp down on the quality of recovered material imports into the country.
What is the impact of this filing, since China is a primary destination for materials from U.S. material recovery facilities? This webinar will discuss the impact of this "Green Sword" to State and Local Governments. Join industry experts from the Solid Waste Association of America (SWANA), the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA) and CalRecycle to discuss the impacts and upcoming deadline.
Register for EPA's webinar on Thursday, October 26 from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Eastern Time<https://register.gotowebinar.com/rt/8123159305226308610>
