Good Afternoon,

Here are a few items of general FDEP/GIS information that you might find interesting or helpful.

Question: When will the newest aerial imagery become available to FDEP GIS users?
Answer: Aerial Imagery meets many purposes within FDEP and OTIS/GIS strives to acquire and deliver the highest quality and most recent products available to meet our diverse needs. An excellent source of high quality aerial imagery is provided from the cooperative efforts of a few state agencies and the USGS. The Florida Department of Revenue, USGS, the Florida Department of Transportation and other partners participate to provide statewide imagery. This participation is informally referred to as the Florida Orthophoto Program. This program acquires imagery for roughly 1/3 of the state each year in alternating areas so that there is a statewide update every three years. Photographic flights typically occur during the winter months when atmospheric conditions are optimal for aerial photography and are flown by county. The attached graphic shows which counties were flown during the winter of 2010-2011. Imagery processing and subsequent review and approval steps typically take a few to several months. OTIS/GIS will be acquiring imagery flown in the winter of 2010/2011 and making it available department wide as soon as it is available starting this summer. Thanks to Steve Dross for the graphic!

New Layers in development:
2010 Census Information - Aparna Bokey is acquiring and joining demographic information to attribute tables within Block, Block Group, Tract layers and creating an updated city boundaries layer.

Mobile GIS:
Are you a field GIS/GPS user and interested in learning about the challenges and successes of others who do similar work? FDEP hosts a sharepoint website set up for the exchange of mobile GIS information. Contact Joe.North at dep.state.fl.us<mailto:Joe.North at dep.state.fl.us> to be provided access to this web. There will be two presentations in room 609 on Tuesday, June 21 from 10 to 11 am highlighting GPS methodologies used by groups in the Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration. Details to follow closer to meeting date.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Best regards,

Joe North
