Maybe Hamilton County is not being selected because Hamilton County has no shoreline. (unless you include the shorelines of the Withlacoochee and Suwannee, of course)

Perhaps the "counties with shorelines" layer only includes those with ocean shorelines.

I was just able to perform the operation you speak of with no problem using the "Select by Attributes" function and entering the following:

NAME = 'HAMILTON'

If you did not already, try using the "Get Unique Values" button to be sure the attribute you are using is entered correctly.

Good afternoon,
I've been trying to use the "select by attributes" function today with no success.
At first I thought that perhaps the table I was working with was too large so I tried something smaller: selecting Hamilton county from the Florida counties w/ shorelines (areas) layer- no dice.
Any ideas?
