You can use "Display X/Y data" in 10.2. Right click on table and choose x and y coord then coordinate system. Also you can calculate geometry in field calculator for your feature dataset.

Another aspect that is very important to me for considering ARCGIS and WINDOWS updates is the TABLE TO POINT application that very simply added Albers XY coordinates to my Attribute Table. When we upgraded to 10.2 this application no longer worked. It is necessary to have the Albers XY coordinates for points to map with DEP ARCGIS projection. I tried several other methods inside ARCGIS Desktop 10.2 recommended by OTIS GIS and could not get that to work and add the Albers XY values. In fact, the OTIS GIS person could not get "other methods" inside ARCGIS to work with my file and gave up. If we are going to make changes to ARCGIS and/or Windows can we please have someone demonstrate the new version of ARCGIS and WINDOWS has an easy method to calculate and add Albers values (perhaps TABLE TO POINT application) before it is approved?

Also I had frequent crashes on ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 and had both our OTIS GIS and the ESRI folks trying to give me a fix but the frequent crash continued. The ESRI folks sent me numerous patches to 10.2 and said we should upgrade to 10.3 where they have fixed many many bugs in that version. These issues caused me to spend an inordinate amount of time to explore "work arounds" that were never successful. If we stay with Windows 7 could we upgrade to ARCGIS 10.3.1 first so we are proficient with that before having to deal with Windows 10 in the future?

I agree with Kimberly's comments "we are recommending that GIS users DO NOT migrate to Windows 10" and think we should stay with ESRI recommendations so we get their support.

If we don't have any heavy users, just occasional, do you recommend that they don't migrate to Windows 10 as well?

Good morning!

This e-mail is in reference to the Windows 10 upgrade. Please be aware that ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.2 is not supported by ESRI<http://support.esri.com/EM/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/45362> for Windows 10 (10.3.1 is supported). ArcPro is not currently supported for Windows 10 either. Today, we are using ArcGIS Desktop version 10.2.2, enterprise wide. We are working with ESRI to resolve a glitch that currently prevents us from migrating to ArcGIS Desktop 10.3. We feel confident that 10.3 issues will be resolved in the near term.

Last week, AJ and the Tier II staff provided us with a separate test machine with Windows 10. Gary has been very busy testing out Map Direct Lite and the embedded maps in the new Edge browser. He has already documented, that in September, 4% of Map Direct users are on Windows 10, and 2% are using Edge. If you would like to test any of your GIS related apps or try the browser on our test machine, please let me know.

April has been coordinating with Systems and ESRI to identify any issues with a migration to 10. As of today, after discussions with support staff, we are recommending that GIS users DO NOT migrate to Windows 10. AJ and his team are aware of this and have access to the Approved User list<https://floridadep.sharepoint.com/otis/gis/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/Lists/GIS%20Approved%20Users/ApprovedUsersTable.aspx> to identify GIS staff. Because of our Statewide responsibilities, we cannot support versions of desktop on Windows 10 that are "out of support with ESRI". I have high hopes that ESRI will remedy this situation long before July 1st, 2016. In the meantime, please contact me if you have a specific need for the windows 10 OS and GIS.

As always, thank you for your patience as we work through this latest migration.

Regards. Kim
