Florida PLT = usually offers free workshops around that state. Hi Joni,=20

Great = question and I=20 should have explained that email. Florida PLT usually offers free = workshops=20 around that state. Occasionally a facilitator will charge a nominal fee = if they=20 are providing lunch or a large quantity of educational resources for the = classroom.

There have = been talks=20 amongst all of the PLT Coordinators in the U.S. about = reaching=20 educators in rural areas and reaching educators that can=92t come to a = 6-hour=20 workshop. Alaska has developed an = online=20 educator workshop to make the workshop available to those that can=92t = attend a=20 regular 6-hour workshop. They have opened up registration to other = educators in=20 other states. The facilitator conducting the workshop is using = technology=20 provided through the University of=20 Alaska and that = is why=20 there is a charge to enroll. The participant is really paying to receive = college=20 credit to do the online workshop.

In Alaska many of the = educators are in=20 truly remote areas and apparently would have to charter an airplane and = spend=20 the night at a hotel. The costs of those combined is well over $1,000. = An online=20 workshop is cheaper for an educator to attend then to arrive in person.=20

I thought = that if=20 someone wanted to enroll in the online course it was up to them. I am = providing=20 another opportunity for someone to receive the Activity Guide. I hope to = offer=20 an online course for free or with a nominal fee in the future through = the=20 University of=20 Florida.=20

If you or any = of your=20 co-workers has additional questions please feel free to contact me.=20

Thanks,=20
