I received a phone call from a local HHW coordinator who was contacted
by a hospice provider. The hospice services was asking about proper
disposal for some controlled substances. A few of the standard
recommendations including a patch manufacturer that recommended the
patch be folded and then flushed, seemed unsatisfactory. Has any
company come out with a kit to specifically destroy pharmaceuticals,
something that would have some nasty dissolving liquids and nasty
absorbing powders? What comes to mind are products that are marketed in
the same was as sharps containers are marketed. I thought that this may
be an easy way to help family members deal with medications that were
used in their homes but cause some concerns when being disposed.
