The Second Tsunami DVD for Sale Now

On December 26, 2004, a tsunami devastated the coasts of Southeast Asia.
The world mobilized to help and the promises made by governments suggested
that the affected countries would have enough funds to replenish their
stocks of medicines which had been destroyed in the tsunami.
Unfortunately, despite the issuance of Guidelines for Drug Donations in
1996, the same mistakes were repeated with dramatic health and economic
effects on disaster-affected countries. The Second Tsunami, a 26-minute
documentary produced by Pharmaciens Sans Frontieres Comité International,
addresses the impact on the countries hit by the disaster and the aftermath
of donated pharmaceuticals on this region.

The DVD is available for purchase ($12.00 includes shipping and handling)
from the Maine Benzodiazepine Study Group. Ordering information can be
found online at: http://www.mainebenzo.org/index.htm#Newsandevents

Dr. Stevan Gressitt’s Eye for Pharma Presentation Now Available!

The PowerPoint presentation materials from Dr. Stevan Gressitt’s
presentation at the Eye for Pharma’s 3rd Annual Pharmaceutical Congress held
on December 1, 2006 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania are now available online
at http://www.mainebenzo.org/index.htm#Newsandevents. This 76-slide
presentation is an extremely comprehensive and informative summary of the
work of the MBSG and current developments in prescription drug use, abuse,
return, and disposal policy.

Second Round of National Take Back Program Endorsements Sought

A proposal for a National Unused Drug Disposal Program was submitted to
leading federal agency officials on November 22, 2006. While subject to
further refinement, it represents the joint efforts of a number of
collaborators associated with the Maine Benzodiazepine Study Group and
Unused Drug Disposal Group. This initiative resulted from the convening of
the Fourth Annual Maine Benzodiazepine Study Group International Conference
and the Third Annual Unused Drug Return International Conference held on
October 23-24, 2006 in Portland, Maine.

We invite you to review the proposal and encourage strongly your
endorsement. Your endorsement can be provided electronically by completing
and submitting the response form.

The proposal and submission form can be found at:
http://www.mainebenzo.org/2006letter.htm

The Maine Benzodiazepine Study Group meets every third Tuesday of the month
from 5:00pm-6:30pm EST via videoconference. The next meeting is scheduled
for Tuesday, January 16. If you would like to participate by telephone
