Subject: [Pharmwaste] 3 month pharmaceutical collections

Plans are being made to hold pharmaceutical collections in Michigan at a
retail chain throughout the state. The proposed collections would have
a secure collection bin/container which would allow the deposit of
pharmaceutical (but not the retrieval without a key - a mailbox type
design) located near or behind the pharmacy, for a period of 3 months.
The goal of the project would be to collect unused antibiotics.
However, other pharmaceuticals that are not "controlled substances"
would also be collected.

If you aware of a similar program or requirements of a similar program,
could you provide me the information that I can share with the Michigan
project coordinators? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Donna Twickler
USEPA Region 5
