Page 3 says, "In general pharmacists are advised to use CD denaturing kits
wherever possible in order to denature CDs." CD are controlled substances. I
did a quick search - http://www.pharmacy-equipment.co.uk/index1.html

http://www.selectenviro.co.uk/healthcare/cddestruction.html

http://www.sellesmedical.co.uk/store/product/1681-Controlled-Drug-CD-Destruct
ion-Kits-250-ml

are three vendors although I didn't find the contents of the kit listed
anywhere.

Then I found this:
http://www.chpct.nhs.uk/trust_documents/Policies/controlleddrugspolicyv1.1.pd
f. Appendix VIII is titled "Destruction of Controlled Drugs"

Here is a waste guidance document put forth by the Royal Pharmaceutical

I have a few questions I would like to pose to subscribers to the
listserve:

1) Is there data about effluent and ash from pharm waste incinerators from
some of the countries in Europe that is incinerating unused or outdated
pharmaceuticals?

2) What is the volume of pharm waste per country that is being incinerated
(if segregated from medical waste)

2) Is there separation between packaging (plastic bottles) and the
medications prior to incineration?

3) What type of incinerators are utilized. Medical waste? High temperature?

4) Are controlled drugs (CDs) separated from meds? Are they handled
differently?

5) Are England, Scotland and Wales utilizing the denaturing of controlled
substances as a primary means of disposal? Is incineration used as a
secondary means?

Thank you, I look forward to your responses.
