This seminar describes the sources of these compounds in wastewater, the
treatment processes that can remove them from wastewater, and their fate
in product streams such as biosolids. Additionally, the seminar will
discuss what might be done to reduce the amounts of these compounds
entering wastewater systems. It will educate engineers and environmental
professionals about alternatives for treatment, including pros and cons
of various unit processes. The seminar will also equip you with
information you can use to communicate effectively with the general
public and with regulators to reduce wastewater discharges of these
chemicals in a cost-effective manner.
$299 M/$349 NM
Late Registration: Registrations must be received three days prior to
the webinar date or a $25 late registration fee will be assessed.

Seminar Benefits:

* Learn about chemicals in the broad categories of EDCs and PPCPs,
with a focus on issues related to wastewater treatment plants
* Become familiar with tools that civil engineers can use to treat
these chemicals to minimize their negative effects on the environment
* Identify sources of these chemicals and understand the
mechanisms that lead to their presence in wastewater streams
* Learn how to communicate with the public and regulators to raise
awareness about proper disposal of these chemicals, with the goal of
possibly reducing the concentrations entering wastewater treatment
plants
* Earn 1.5 Professional Development Hours (1.5 PDHs)

Summary Outline:

* What are EDCs and PPCPs?
* How do they enter wastewater?
* What are their impacts on water quality?
* What are alternatives for reducing their quantity entering
wastewater?
* What are alternatives for treatment?
* What communication strategies are recommended?

Seminar Instructor:

Erin M. Snyder Ph.D., is a Director and Principal Toxicologist for Total
Environmental Solutions, Inc., in Nevada. Dr. Snyder specializes in
environmental toxicology, aquatic toxicology, and risk assessment, with
a particular emphasis on contaminants in wastewater, reuse water, and
drinking water. Dr. Snyder has more than 10 years of research experience
related to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), pharmaceuticals and
personal care products (PPCPs), and other contaminants of emerging
concern (CECs) in the environment. Her relevant project experience
includes: investigation of the effects of EDCs in wastewater on
reproductive and thyroid physiology of fish; and prioritization of EDCs
and PPCPs and evaluation of the toxicological relevance of these
chemicals in drinking water and reuse water to human health and the
environment. She has authored and co-authored several published journal
articles, book chapters, and reports dealing with EDCs and PPCPs in the
water cycle as well as development and application of a chemical scoring
and ranking system designed to prioritize chemicals for risk assessment
on the basis of toxicity, bioaccumulation potential, and environmental
fate predictors. She has comprehensive knowledge of the water industry,
with expertise spanning human and environmental health effects of
chemicals, instrumental and bioassay analyses, risk assessment,
regulatory issues, water treatment, and risk communication.
