>From EPA Reg 3:

Please join us on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 for an Environmental Forum
on Emerging Contaminants webinar. The webinar will run from 12:45 p.m.
- 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) and is hosted by the US
Environmental Protection Agency's Region 3 Pharmaceuticals Workgroup and
the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water
Standards and Facility Regulation.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Susan Glassmeyer of US EPA's Office
of Research and Development and Dr. Shane Snyder of the Southern Nevada
Water Authority's Applied Research and Development Center will be our
speakers for this Forum.

Dr. Glassmeyer will examine the role of emerging contaminants in the
drinking water cycle as her research aims to determine the identity of
chemicals that are commonly present in wastewater effluent, the
persistence of these chemicals in surface and ground waters, the removal
of these chemicals during drinking water treatment, the formation of
by-products during their chlorination, and the presence of these
chemicals in finished drinking water.

Dr. Snyder will describe the history, current status, and future
implications that the detection of endocrine disruptors and
pharmaceuticals will have on water and energy sustainability, with a
particular emphasis on water treatment technologies.

Please see the attached abstracts and speaker biographies for more
information.

To participate in the webinar all you will need is a computer with
internet connection using Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher and a
telephone. We encourage folks from the same offices with projecting
capabilities to watch/listen together. If it is convenient for you, PA
DEP will be showing the webinar live in Room 105 on the 1st floor in the
Rachel Carson State Office Building in Harrisburg, PA. For more
information, please contact Arianne Proctor (717-783-7578) PA DEP Bureau
of Water Standards and Facility Regulation. Additionally, EPA Region 3
will be showing the webinar in their Philadelphia office in the
Allegheny Room. Please contact Ellen Schmitt if you are interested in
viewing the webinar from this location.

There is no cost to participate in the webinar, but you must contact
Ellen Schmitt no later than Monday, April 13th in order to register and
to receive log-in instructions. The sooner the better.
