[Pharmwaste] Do Flush list?

Drinking water wells are not supposed to be drilled or located downhill from
a septic system due to potential contamination; this could be a problem with
many older homes as this was not considered in the "old days." However,
there is the possibility that contamination could occur even with distances
reqired for new wells from private septics.

Some folks still (I hear) use their personal septage to fertilize their
gardens, especially young, organic farmers here in NC who are a part of the
"back to composting" movement who have composting toilets. Most rural people
with septic systems (like me) are required to get them pumped every so often
and - of course the septage and sludge is then disposed of at the local
WWTP.

It seems that the concept of "Do Flush" does not take into consideration
that many homes and facilities that are not served by a Publicly Owned
Treatment Works (POTW) have septic systems. Flushing drugs into a
septic system, aside from disrupting the system (i.e. antibiotics can
kill the bacteria that treats the effluent) it can pose a problem to the
groundwater and hence any nearby privately owned water supply wells?

Does anyone have a copy of the updated "Do Flush" list from the DEA as
it
relates to certain controls? I understand that number grew from around
12
categories.
