If that is how he chose to do it, he could work with Ohio Hospital Association through there Ohio Environmental Education Grant, and observe the pharmaceutical waste take back days that we are having - as well as attend a roundtable and/or the pharmacy workgroup. There would be plenty to help him.

What a terrific idea...a presentation on the current issues and dangers of unused and expired medicines, as well as the barriers against citizens doing the right thing.  A local petition coupled with an awareness campaign should be sufficient for his badge!

As an Eagle Scout myself (1978), I would suggest to the young lad that while he may not be able to actually conduct a collection program, he publicize his research and the roadblocks he has come up against as well as suggesting some possible solutions. Educating the public and our elected officials as well as other government agencies is still a worthy project.
