The 862 pds- all pills fromt he 520 participants with 66 pds of it being controlled substances. Since that time, WLSSD in conjunction with the St. Louis County Sherriff Dept (would not happen without them), has conducted 3 more collections with an average of 200 participants per collection, 25-40 pds of controlled substances collected and 100-300 pds of noncontrolled (as we refer to them) per collection.

Good question Gressitt. Perhaps Mr. Donahue will reveal the super double secret non-bench scale treatment method that can be used across the country that we all haven't heard of yet?

I am trying to dig up event information. One event in Duluth, MN had 520 participants with 862 lbs collected, but it says "net" pounds the report. I am trying to find out whether that is just the pills/liquids or total with all the packaging. I was there and it seemed that most people had a standard paper grocery bag that was ½ full to full. 1.65 lbs/participant seems a bit light from what I saw, 10 lbs is amazing, wow!

But the *solution* is still incineration. Not good!

Wow - That's over 10 pounds of pharmaceutical waste per vehicle! That seems high for a single consumer household.

May I ask this List Group if any other Program of it's kind has exceeded 1,336 lbs. for a one time collection of unused/unwanted medicines collected in the US? Thanks.

I wanted to share the results provided by the San Antonio Police Department/Narcotics Division of "MedDropSA" that was held this last Sat. (June 5th) in San Antonio Texas. MedDropSA is the name for the City of San Antonio's residential pharmaceutical drug disposal program. See Flyer attached.

The San Antonio Water System has partnering with the San Antonio Police Department and the City's Solid Waste Management Division on a new initiative, MedDropSA. This program is designed to collect unwanted or unused medications, both prescription and over-the-counter. The event was scheduled in conjunction with the City's Household Hazardous Waste collection day to collect old/unneeded pharmaceuticals, providing a safe, free alternative to disposal.
