Please note that this is a mail back system that may or may not work for pharmacies in your state, depending on your regulations related to HHW. Sharps, Inc. manages the pharm wastes. http://sharpsinc.com/unused-medications.htm They do not accept controlled substances, so you will still need to deal with those. Sharps, Inc. is not licensed as a haz waste facility, which may limit the drugs that can be mailed to this facility. Waste pharms are sent via the U.S.P.S. and I have not checked whether they can transport haz waste. Here is where you can read more:
In MN, given our current regulatory structure, the system would work for non-haz pharms only and for households that mail their own pharms directly to the company. In other states it might be a perfectly fine system for pharmacies. It is marketed to pharmacies that may or may not understand your state's regulations, so they will need additional help with that.
