Session: Water Efficiency for Hotels-- Greening Your Bottom Line through
Water Conservation
Date: Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 12 PM ET
Abstract:
Hotels are extremely large volume users of water. One study found that
hotels use an average of 209 gallons of water each day for each occupied
room, and energy costs to heat hot water can be two times that of the
water & sewer utility. PKF Hospitality Research estimates that the cost
of electricity comprised the greatest portion of hotel utility expenses
(59.4 percent) and water/sewer (17.6 percent) make up the majority of
the balance of utility costs. This webinar will discuss specific ways in
which hotels can reduce water usage and energy costs associated with
water use as a means of increasing revenues and maintaining utility
budgets despite increasing electricity and water/sewer rates. Attendees
to this webinar will hear from experts in water efficiency about the
context of water conservation in hotels, including securing executive
support, emerging technologies, and how to include energy cost savings
in the financial analysis of water efficiency retrofits. Additionally,
there will be a presentation from a hotel that reduced water usage 45%
through fixture retrofits, reduced outside water usage 50% through
efficient irrigation, eliminated the use of potable water for
irrigation, and now produces 60% of domestic hot water onsite with a
solar water heating system.
