TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -During today's meeting of the Governor and Cabinet, Attorney General Pam Bondi sponsored a resolution, which was approved by the Governor and Cabinet, recognizing Saturday, Aug. 27, as Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, the National Family Partnership, Walgreens and C.A.R.E.S. AllianceT, which stands for Collaborating and Acting Responsibly to Ensure Safety, is sponsoring and organizing the second annual statewide drug take-back event to provide citizens with the opportunity to safely return unused or expired prescription drug medication. The event is being coordinated in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Attorney General Bondi recognizes Pinellas County Sheriff Jim Coates, representing the Florida Sheriff's Association, and Tallahassee Police Chief Dennis Jones, representing the Florida Police Chief's Association, for their support of this event.

"Drug take-back days are excellent events that everyone in a community can participate in to prevent prescription drug abuse," said Attorney General Pam Bondi. "Just yesterday, we found that prescription drug-related deaths have increased by nine percent, and ridding one's home of unnecessary prescription drugs is a good start to protecting family members and loved ones from prescription drug abuse."
