Subject: Engineering students design process to remove pharmaceuticals
from wastewater

If acid and microbes in the human body cannot degrade pharmaceuticals
then it would be expected that they would be stable in the
environment. Photodegradation could occur in the environment depending
on the circumstance.

Any photodegradation study should be done with radiotracer chemicals
to discern the photodegradation products and for a material balance.
The toxicity of some photodegradation products could be just a bad a
parent chemical. This has been proven with pesticide studies.
