Rexam, a manufacturer of pill bottles, last spring was grinding pill bottles at a pharmacy during a weekend meds collection as an experiment to gauge the public's response. The issue was the volume of recycled product needed to cover transportation back to the recycle facility. As a secondary issue, plastic Rx vials cannot be used (unless washed) due to contamination issues from "pill powder dust".

Subject: [Pharmwaste] Recycling Prescription Bottles
Does anyone have any information about the feasibility of recycling prescription bottles? Is there any company or facility that accepts them?
Thanks,
Kate
