Hi Jeff and all,
Jeff thank you for the clarification for Selsun Blue. And although zinc isn’t HW under RCRA, it can be an aquatic toxicant, so if you’re disposing of significant quantities, it may be best to use some sort of land disposal. And then of course, my pitch for P2, consider why the waste was generated in the first place and enact procedures to eliminate the issue.

Very truly yours,

FYI – during our waste characterization of Selsun Blue we noticed some formulations contain Pyrithione Zinc as the active ingredient instead of Selenium Sulfide. The formulations containing Pyrithione Zinc as the active ingredient are not RCRA hazardous. Don’t assume all Selsun Blue is RCRA hazardous when being discarded (non-consumer).

Fred,
Recently I had a discussion with folks at DOE. Selenium is "hazardous waste" so I asked what was the scoop on Selsun Blue etc. It is fine for an individual to have bottles of it but if a community event collects them then it is hazardous. There is a lot that is confusing.
