Jeanie,

We have the National Directory of Drug Take-Back and Disposal Programs that lists some 490 active programs. I might be able to help your colleague, but w. e don't survey what type of receptacles is used in the collection. Practically all the programs prohibit collection of sharps or other medical devices. Inhalers, epi pens, syringes, etc. do show up occasionally. We do ask about collection of controlled substances and method of disposal. You may refer your colleague to me, and I can send her a copy of this Directory.

Our next annual survey will go out in early march 2013.

Keep up the great work!

Hello All,
 sh
I have a colleague who is asking:

“Is anyone aware of any existing pharmacy(ies) currently using receptacles at their sites to collect medications through take back efforts?”

If you are aware of any of these, would you please reply. I think it would also be helpful to include any special conditions, like ‘are controls accepted’, sharps, etc or maybe just ‘what is prohibited’?.

Her email address is on the cc line if you would prefer to email her directly.
