[Pharmwaste] Pharmaceutical Companies exempt from RCRA

Hi Jeff and all,

 

Actually, the rule, in proposed state since 2011 intends to clarify the
recycling of hazardous materials.  It did not exempt any businesses,
including chemical, pharmaceuticals, and industrial waste.  Sierra Club is
discussing it because they worked with EPA to identify sham recycling
practices that also were environmental justice issues in that they were
occurring in poor neighborhoods.

A recent article by Leslie Fields, Director of the Sierra Club Environmental
Justice and Community Partnership Program indicates chemical companies,
pharmaceutical manufacturers, and the industrial waste industry are exempt
from RCRA because of an exemption by the 2008 Bush Administration.  Full
