Collection Program to be Discussed October 29

Over 27 tons of medicine collected to date

The media and members of the public are invited to attend a Safe Medicine Disposal Symposium on October 29, 2014 from 8:00 am - 2:30 pm, at the City of Santa Rosa Utilities Field Office, 35 Stony Point Road, Santa Rosa<https://www.google.com/maps/place/35+Stony+Point+Rd,+Santa+Rosa,+CA+95401/@38.442619,-122.7515584,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x80843839db8a69b5:0x68d6fd77a41889b2>. Symposium speakers will discuss the range of issues associated with pharmaceutical waste and evaluate the success, challenges and solutions to take-back events and campaigns. Other topics to be discussed include producer responsibility, environmental impacts, and local government funding.

The Safe Medicine Disposal Program<http://www.safemedicinedisposal.org> (Program) is a partnership of local agencies that provides FREE medicine disposal options for residents in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties. Since 2007, the Program has collected over 27 tons of unwanted pharmaceuticals. The Program's goal is to protect children from accidental poisonings and keep pharmaceuticals out of our creeks and streams.

When: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm, Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Where: City of Santa Rosa Utilities Field Office, 35 Stony Point Road, Santa Rosa, CA 94901

Who: Public officials, health care providers, interested parties, and leaders in environmental, non-profit, and government organizations, including Shirlee Zane, Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and Water Agency Director; Dr. Marshall Kubota, Regional Medical Director, Partnership Health Plan of California; and Matt St. John, Executive Officer, North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board.
