Subject: [Pharmwaste] DEA Rule on-line Monday AM, published Tuesday.
Teleconference for Media Monday Noon

The rule will be available on-line Monday morning and published Tuesday.
The Rule goes into effect 30 days later (October 9?)

Maybe a few of us would volunteer to represent the list-serve on the media
teleconference and report back?
The DEA has a very limited number of lines for media representatives. There
will be a Q&A following the presentations. Any volunteers or nominations?
I have the call in number and access code.

DEA TO HOST TELECONFERENCE TO ANNOUNCE

FINAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG DISPOSAL REGULATIONS

New process gives Americans simple way to dispose of unwanted, expired
medications

Federal officials, including DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart, Acting
ONDCP Director Michael Botticelli, and United States Attorney for Vermont
Tristram Coffin will participate in a media teleconference to discuss the
final regulations for safe and responsible disposal of controlled
substances.

As evidenced by the tremendous participation by Americans in all 50 states
at the eight National Prescription Drug Take-Back events since 2010, there
is a significant need for a clear standard for the safe disposal of
controlled substances. These new regulations, which were crafted by DEA
following Congressional passage of the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal
Act of 2010, will be a great benefit to the millions of citizens who want to
make their homes and medicine cabinets safe from potential drug diversion
and abuse.

Who: Drug Enforcement Administrator Michele M. Leonhart, Acting ONDCP
Director Michael Botticelli, United States Attorney Tristram Coffin, and DEA
Deputy Assistant Administrator Joseph Rannazzisi, who heads the Office of
Diversion Control.

What: Media teleconference and Q&A to discuss final regulations for safe
disposal of controlled substances.

When: Monday, September 8th at 12 noon Eastern.
