[Pharmwaste] NYTimes story says only 1% of pharmacies have registered to receive

New Hampshire is currently one of the eight states that forbids drop boxes in pharmacies. State law and regulations currently prohibit pharmacies from collecting dispensed prescription medicine. See http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/html/XXX/318-E/318-E-1.htm

However, state law does allow law enforcement to coordinate medicine collection events/drop boxes and there are an increasing number of drop boxes in law enforcement offices throughout NH. In some cases, the development of these drop boxes in law enforcement offices are partially sponsored by pharmacies.

Alan Schwartz, the NY Times reporter, says he derived the 1% number from information
provided by the DEA and pharmacy trade organizations.

Please note, the story reports that eight states are not participating. I believe now there are now only six:
AK, CT, HI, MN, MS, & NY

Great that he mentioned EPR efforts in his story.

NYTimes story says only 1% participation:

Anyone know where that number came from?
