Hi Lisa,
Thanks for reaching out.
Myoldmeds promotes trash disposal, which externalizes the (low) cost of safe disposal at the expense of the environment and public safety. I feel strongly that we should all be promoting take back programs as the best way to dispose of unwanted medications.
Many pharmaceutical manufactures are under intense public scrutiny for extreme price hikes and for their role in creating the opioid epidemic. The issue of safe disposal is an opportunity for manufacturers to become hero's in the public's eye. I urge PhARMA to consider the public relations windfall to be gained by switching from fighting extended producer responsibility to being the leader at promoting it.
With a growing number of states and communities adopting EPR, the writing is on the wall. Please ask PhARMA to stop spending money fighting a proven system, in line with government recommendations. PhARMA can choose to be at the table, helping craft a nationwide EPR solution that is low cost, convenient, and effective.
Lisa, you may be the hero that gets PhARMA turned around and on the right track!
Sincerely,
Ed Gottlieb
Chair, Coalition for Safe Medication Disposal
