WEBINAR: Why Tax Status of a Stewardship Organization Matters!

To Ensure Transparency and Public Benefit
You Need to Know the Facts
Join the National Stewardship Action Council's Webinar
June 19, 2017, 10 -11:30 AM PT
(11 AM MT - Noon CT - 1 PM ET)

The California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC) worked with the firm Adler & Colvin, who specialize in the law of nonprofit organizations, to develop a white paper and PowerPoint on the different non-profit tax status options available for stewardship organizations if the nonprofit status is not limited by authorizing law. These materials were granted to NSAC, an affiliate of CPSC, who will be hosting a webinar for anyone who is considering creating or already has a product stewardship program.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

  * Is the stewardship program for the public benefit?
  * Do you want to maximize transparency?
  * Do you want to ensure accountability of the program?
  * Should tax-exempt organizations be allowed to form Limited Liability Corporations (LLC)?

NSAC will be hosting the webinar with non-profit legal experts from Adler & Colvin<https://www.adlercolvin.com/> who prepared a white paper at the request of CPSC and will discuss the options, how the current stewardship programs are structured, their recommendations, and take questions. We will provide significant time for members to ask questions and get clarifications.

Rosemary Fei<http://www.adlercolvin.com/attorneys/rosemary-fei.php> and Jorge Lopez<https://www.adlercolvin.com/attorneys/jorge-lopez.php> from Adler & Colvin, who co-authored the paper, will be presenting. Ms. Fei and Mr. Lopez are considered experts in this area of non-profit law with decades of experience on non-profit structures.

Testimonials:

"The CPSC webinar provided an overview of the different types of nonprofit corporations, an explanation of how they differ, and suggestions on how product stewardship organizations should form. It was helpful to learn from legal experts about these differences and how government can require product stewardship organizations that comply with legislation to form and operate in a way that is transparent and beneficial to the public. CPSC provided a really important information forum for local governments that we are not getting anywhere else."
- Eileen Leung, San Francisco Department of the Environment

"EPR legislation is supported by over 100 local and national bodies, including the Tehama County Solid Waste Management Agency. However, in order to create programs that work, it's imperative to understand the necessary requirements and structure needed for an effective, transparent and accountable non-profit stewardship program. This webinar does a great job explaining the differences between the types of non-profit categories and which is most suited for such stewardship organizations."
- Rachel Ross, Tehama County Solid Waste Management Agency
