Jeanie:

I would be happy to discuss with you about Iowa's statewide medication disposal program with pharmacies. The Iowa pharmacy-based program started in 2009 for non-controlled substances and has grown to over 450 community-based/outpatient pharmacies participating. This program has since expanded into controlled substances. Funding has come through the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.

At this point, the controlled substance component of this program has been working to provide synergy with statewide efforts to add permanent disposal units at local ?law enforcement. There is now at least one permanent disposal units in all of Iowa's 99 counties between pharmacies and police stations.

Feel free to contact me at apudlo at iarx.org or 515-270-0713 to further discuss.

Thanks!

Anthony

Subject: [Pharmwaste] Need info on statewide programs

Hello All,

I have the opportunity to discuss the potential for a statewide medication take back initiative in Texas with one of our House Representatives. I recently read about the program in North Carolina. Do any of you have information on statewide, or even regional, programs that might be useful to me in this setting?
