Is anyone familiar with the emerging issue of cytotoxic chemotheraphy drugs contamination, if any other states besides Rhode Island and Massachusetts are focusing on related policy, or the broadness of the issue which appears to be a specific PPCP concern?
I'm also interested in finding information regarding ground water contamination from cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs.

See email below on topic from a colleague who works for EPA Region 1 on source water protection.

Thanks,

Roy and Marjorie,

I am working with my colleague Ernie Panciera at Rhode Island DEM on this emerging issue (see memo below on interpretation of Rhode Island groundwater regs). Have you heard any discussion about this issue? It seems more specific than the broader PPCP issue.

RIDEM asked me to check with GWPC to get the national perspective. I spoke to Mike Paque yesterday and he's going to talk to Ben G. about it when he gets back in the office.

For now, the focus on policy seems limited to Rhode Island and Massachusetts. See bill proposed in the MA legislature this session and PowerPoint presentation given to Sen. Whitehouse (Rhode Island).

(See attached file: MA 2011 Bill S01089 (1).pdf)(See attached file:

Pharma-Cycle_Senator.ppt)

The gentleman who sent me this email (Jim Mullowney) is someone who I met at the Northeast private well conference in November in CT. Jim just met with the Chairman of the EPA Science Advisory Board, Tom Zeller, last week to discuss this.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Great meeting you the other day in Southbury CT. I was the guy with the ‘Pee in a cup’ program to save the world. I would love to meet with you and your staff to discuss the topic of cytotoxic Chemotherapy drugs excreted from patients, I know that sounds
so inviting. Please read the attachment from the top environmental attorney in RI. This same legal opinion would apply with the EPA regs.
