<p class="MsoNormal">Hello All. As you are all keenly aware…today is the day! What a great opportunity we have to provide better solutions to ultimate users regarding the disposal of controls! Now that the new DEA controlled substances disposal regs are out,
Sharps is excited to be able to offer controlled substances containment and disposal solutions for ultimate users’ controlled and non-controlled medications. Sharps is offering a mailback solution as well as the MedSafe™ collection receptacle for placement
in retail pharmacy, long-term care communities (managed by registered collectors and NOT indicated for hazardous drugs…we already help with the correct segregation of that as well as medical waste streams), law enforcement, narcotic treatment facilities, and
hospitals/clinics with on-site pharmacies. As we all know and have discussed in this list service, several states’ narcotics boards and boards of pharmacy are in the process of harmonizing, if you will, their regs/statutes with the new DEA regs. As we have
done in the past with our TakeAway systems for non-controls, Sharps is working with independent, chain and LTC pharmacies as well as national organizations to place the new MedSafe™ in those states that are currently onboard with the DEA; and will be ready
to provide the systems to collectors in all states as the states are able to come on board. The Sharps TakeAway envelopes will fill the gap where applicable and where there are not opportunities for the MedSafe™ such as for residents who manage their own medications
in long-term care, and hospice. Pharmacies can still provide the TakeAway envelopes as they have for years; but now of course controls are allowed; while also placing the MedSafe™ receptacle at pharmacies (where applicable.) As always, Sharps respects the
