A personal message from Chris Angel.

In 2008 I founded Great Lakes Clean Water organization along with the Yellow Jug Old Drugs Program.
At that time there were very few options available for people to properly dispose of Rx Waste. And I personally was astounded so little was been done on this issue in the US. In fact DEA take back days didn't start until a few years later
The Yellow Jug Old Drugs Program started in 6 pharmacies in Northeast Michigan. Currently we serve over 550 in several states.
Why am I passionate about this issue? Why do I spend so much time continually working on improving our processes, promoting proper disposal.
Because we have so much ground yet to cover. Trace amounts of pharmaceutical compounds were being found in municipal water systems and even remote surface water systems throughout the US.
More research has been done and continues to be done on the effects of these compounds in the environment and ultimately on humans.
The trajectory for the number of medications individuals will use will continue to climb .. therefore the amount of Waste from drugs will continue to increase.
I have been pleasantly surprised that many pharmacies realize the need for programs to properly dispose of drug waste. And that citizens respond and utilize the service in such great numbers. This year the average weight collected has doubled at a majority of pharmacies in the Yellow Jug Old Drugs Program.
I believe this issue will be one of the most important environmental issues of our time.. that is why I work so hard. Water is vital and when people are motivated to care and do what they can to help keep our water clean they feel empowered and want to do even more to help protect our most precious resource. Water
I firmly believe that in the future proper disposal of unused unwanted drugs will be the norm not the exception. I believe collection of drug waste at pharmacies will be as commonplace as taking letters to the post office to mail.
It's going to take collaboration.. massive amounts of cooperation to move this issue forward.
I'm calling on all people. Citizens, pharmacists, environmentalists ... all people and government agencies, non profits, pharmaceutical industry and private industry and corporations to make this issue a priority. We need to be putting our heads together to help solve the very solvable problems to provide all people in the US with access to proper collection and disposal of Rx-Waste.

Together we can accomplish this.

Contact me personally by email or phone
989 335 5507
Chris Angel, President
Great Lakes US Clean Water Organization

Sent from my Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone
