As of December 30, 2016, an Administrative Law Judge invalidated a proposed pollution notification rule promulgated by the Department, which required owners of installations throughout the State of Florida report pollution events to the local government as well as a local media outlet to notify the general public of the event. Protecting Florida's pristine environment is our top priority and DEP will continue the public pollution notification process to ensure all Floridians and visitors are notified of pollution incidents. Moving forward the notification process from the Department may change, however it was imperative that the notification to the public continued seamlessly. The incident below was reported to the State Watch Office and is being forwarded to you because the event has occurred in your area. * Location of incident or discovery: Lift station MC #20 @ 7465 W. Stuart Lane, Homosassa, 34446
* Suspected source and cause of incident or discover: Station overflowed to location 30' x 20' behind the station due to locally heavy rainfall from severe weather event.
* Type of pollution, including substance or contaminant names: Sewage waste water
* Amount of pollution: Estimated 850 gallons.
* Medium affected by pollution: Land.
* Potentially affected areas beyond installation property boundary: None.
* Potential risk to the public health, safety, or welfare: Unknown. Land surface contamination has been remediated.
* Identification of parties notified of incident and time notification occurred. Nick Roff, Department of Environmental Protection, Monday, January 23, 2017 at 4:05pm.
* Any other information that may be helpful: Limed affected area. Area is fenced off from the public. Area was cleaned up using pump truck.
