As of December 30, 2016, an Administrative Law Judge invalidated a proposed pollution notification rule promulgated by the Department, which required owners of installations throughout the State of Florida report pollution events to the local government as well as a local media outlet to notify the general public of the event. Protecting Florida's pristine environment is our top priority and DEP will continue the public pollution notification process to ensure all Floridians and visitors are notified of pollution incidents. Moving forward the notification process from the Department may change, however it was imperative that the notification to the public continued seamlessly. The incident below was reported to the State Watch Office and is being forwarded to you because the event has occurred in your area. Initial Report: A tractor-trailer was driven into an old closed down gas station in the Cross City area. The vehicle hit the awning above the pumps, knocking the awning down. The tractor-trailer then caught fire and burned. An estimated 25 to 35 gallons of diesel were spilled onto the ground. No storm drains or waterways affected. Local fire department responded and put he fire out. All northbound lanes of Hwy-19 were closed for almost one hour due to the incident. Hwy-19 will reopen in the next 10 minutes. No injuries reported. Tractor-trailer was hauling watermelon. The gas station has been closed for years and the pumps are no longer operational.
