Thanks to each and everyone of you whom replied to my plea for =
help......
=20
Tried just about everyone of your suggestions; each having their own =
merit...however the 'winner' suggestion came from the ESRI Desktop =
Discussion Conference under the topic "ArcMap Crashes at Startup - =
Win2000 SP4 problem? ". I'm copying the full text here for any of you =
that may have similar problems...through my experience with this (at =
least two days worth of struggle and searching along with one of my =
cohorts), I suggest you first simply try reregistering the .dll listed =
below. I believe I could have avoided all the headaches of uninstall =
and manual reinstall /cleanup (to the tune of about 7-8 times!) if I'd =
only done the registering of the .dll. This may also be related to the =
numerous Windows XP automatic installs that our agency has implemented. =
Could have boggered up the dao360.dll...who knows!
=20
However, all said and done, here is the text from the ESRI Desktop =
Discussion....

The solution to my ArcGIS 8.3 woes after installing Windows 2000 sp4 =
and then a uninstall and clean reinstall (at the RUN dialogue box type =
in <CD Install Drive>:\setup /cleanup) of ArcGIS 8.3 all came down to a =
simple registration of the Da0360.dll. Here is what finally worked:=20
Run Regsvr32.exe to Register the DAO Files=20
Regsvr32.exe registers dynamic link library (.dll) files or ActiveX =
Controls in Windows.=20
Click Start, and then click Run.=20
In the Run dialog box, type the following command:=20
Regsvr32.exe C:\progra~1\common~1\micros~1\dao\dao360.dll=20
=09
=20

=20
=20
To register the dao360.dll, I simply opened a DOS window and typed in =
regsvr32.exe c:\progra~1\common~1\dao\dao360.dll. I also made sure I =
had adequate virtual memory, updated XP, Microsoft Data Access, and =
ArcGIS 8.3 patches before registering the .dll. Hope this saves people =
time if they run into the same ArcMap/ArcCatalog snafoos.
=20
thanks again.

Subject: ARCgis Installation=20
Morning all....
=20
I'm having difficulties with my ARCgis 8.3 Installation. I have ARCgis =
8.3 installed on an XP machine and have been successfully running all =
aspects of ARCview 8 and ARC/Info Workstation until I received the =
message the my c: drive memory was nearly full (all program files are =
loaded on the C: drive; data and documents on the d: and e:). I allowed =
the XP manager to run a clean up on my c: drive to archive and remove =
temporary files and rebooted.....I initiated an ArcMap session only to =
receive the following error in an ArcMap:ArcMap.exe - Application Error =
dialogue box: =20
=20
The instruction at "0x77e778ce" referenced memory at "0x0037b2e4". The =
memory could no be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program.
=20
The ArcMap session did not even open....
=20
Then in the ArcCatalog session (it did open and accessed files and =
directories I had been connected too), I activated a GIS file and =
selected the preview tab and received the following error in the =
ArcCatalog - ArcInfo - =
D:\projects\panther\data\grids\habsuit:arccatolog.exe - Application =
Error dialogue box:
=20
The instruction a "0x728312d3" referenced memory a "0x0000004". The =
memory could not be "read". Click OK to terninate the program.
=20
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the entire suite of ARCgis products 5 =
times....results are the same errors. I'm sure there must be something =
wrong within the registries but have no clue as to what.
=20
Been to the ESRI site and have run the fixregistry.exe - not the =
solution.
=20
ANYONE HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, =
IS THERE A FIX! IF SO, WHAT! =20
=20
I sure don't want to have to reformat my entire disk! =20
