I agree that the Windows Explorer lacks basic functionality. What you want
is easily accomplished with a wonderful freeware utility, which will install
itself as an Explorer extension and act on right-click. See
http://home.arcor.de/we/wegzumziel/download/dmexinfo.htm.
I am using it all the time and it saves me tons of time and frustration. Let
me know if you need additional help with the installation or use.

Subject: shrug-l: Off topic question - Windows Explorer
I'm sorry to pose this question here - please forgive me, but I think maybe
someone out there has done this. I can't find the answer anywhere else!
We have all our old jobs stored on CDs - about a zillion of them. How can we
make a quick list of what is on each CD so we can search for it by job name?
You know - when I open Windows Explorer I want to simply click "copy" to
copy the LIST OF CONTENTS and then "paste" into Excel (or whatever). Then I
can add a column to equal the CD number - do you see what I mean?
I just know there has to be an easier way than for one of us to sit and type
each file name into Excel (or whatever) or - what we have been doing -
loading a CD, is the job there? No? OK - load the next CD, is it there? That
is not very efficient.
Thank you,
Nonie Castro
