Thanks all for your replies, Seems ESRI has a Tracking Analyst module
designed specifically to handle temporal data. Since I do not have =
access to
this extension the best solution is to convert the text column to a new =
data
field using the time value command in Excel. However, when converting =
to a
.dbf file for import to ArcMap, the .dbf file is unable to read this =
column,
it converts it to "19000100". Why? Who can say? The workaround is to =
copy
and paste the values of this field and then define it as a numeric value =
with
at least 6 decimal places. If the date and time are concatenated =
together
the result is a numeric value for the date and decimal time in reference =
to
days past 00:00 January 1, 1900 with the time a decimal portion of a =
day. I
was hoping there was a simpler method, but this works. In this way I =
can
join data tables on the time stamp and symbolise data by time as well. =
Hope
this is helpful to others, Cheers,=20
