Title: OPS GIS Data Steward
Location: Department of Environmental Protection, 2600 Blair Stone Rd,
Tallahassee
Job Description: A 20-hr./week OPS position in the Geographic =
Information
Systems Section of the Bureau of Information Systems, Department of
Environmental Protection, in Tallahassee. The incumbent of this =
position
will perform the following tasks.
* Prepare background data layers for inclusion in the FDEP
enterprise GIS library
* Prepare metadata describing GIS layers in the enterprise GIS
library
* Provide assistance to users in the preparation of
FDEP-created GIS layers and related metadata for inclusion in the FDEP
enterprise GIS library
* Fulfill public requests for GIS-related data and information
* Perform data maintenance tasks including correcting errors or
updating layers in the enterprise GIS library
Required and Useful Skills: The successful candidate of this position =
must
posses the following skills.
* Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS 8.x (ArcCatalog, ArcMap, and
ArcToolbox)
* Proficiency in data format conversion and projection
* Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel
* Familiarity with SQL
* Successful experience working with users of varying skill
levels
* Successful fostering of good relationships with users
The following skills are not required but will be helpful.
* Experience with the Unix or Linux operating systems
* Experience with ArcSDE 8.x
* Experience with Oracle Spatial 9i
* Experience with VBA and/or Visual Basic
* Experience with ArcObjects 8.x programming
Salary: $15-$20/hr., commensurate with experience.
GIS Environment: The Geographic Information Systems Section provides
software, data and assistance to approximately 400 FDEP GIS users. The
Section maintains a 300-layer vector data library and a 2TB raster data
library. The FDEP GIS software standard is the ESRI suite of products =
and
includes ArcView 3.x, ArcGIS 8.x and extensions, ArcSDE 8.x, ArcIMS 4.x,
MapObjects 2.x, MapObjects - Java Edition 2.x, and Oracle Spatial 9i.
