CUSTOMIZING ARCIMS USING ARCXML
Two-day class
May 19-20, 2004, in the Leon County Courthouse
8:30 - 4:30
Cost per person: $550

Learn how to use ArcXML to communicate with ArcIMS. This course teaches
ArcIMS web developers advanced methods for using ArcXML to improve their
web delivery systems. Participants learn the different methods of
customization and then focus on developing advanced ArcXML requests.
Emphasis is placed on constructing requests that optimize performance.
Focus will be on ArcXML syntax rather than building a custom client.

AUDIENCE
This course is designed for experienced ArcIMS users who are interested
in learning ArcXML syntax to construct advanced requests. This course is
for those who have successfully completed Introduction to ArcIMS.

PREREQUISITES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
It is mandatory that participants complete "Introduction to ArcIMS"
before taking this course or have equivalent experience with the terms
and theories used in ArcIMS. Programming experience with HTML and
JavaScript is beneficial but not required. Familiarity with XML is
highly recommended. This is not an introductory class. This course
does not teach users how to program or customize ArcIMS using HTML and
JavaScript. Users interested in this should take "Customizing ArcIMS
Using HTML and JavaScript."

GOALS
-Understand the relationship between configuration files, requests, and
responses
-Administer map services using ArcXML
-Override the default map display
-Extract data
-Geocode
-Query attribute and geometric information
-Add new layers to the ArcIMS map display
-Render map features
-Project data
-Understand how ArcXML is implemented in an HTML/ JavaScript client
-Optimize ArcXML requests and responses

CUSTOMIZING ARCIMS USING THE ACTIVE X CONNECTOR
Three-day class
June 22-24, 2004, in the Leon County Courthouse
8:30 - 4:30
Cost per person: $760

OVERVIEW
Learn how to use the ActiveX connector to create lightweight ArcIMS
clients. This course reviews Active Server Pages (ASP) techniques used
in creating ActiveX connector clients and prepares ArcIMS web developers
to create custom clients, tools, and more. Participants learn how to
use the objects provided with the ActiveX connector, integrate calls to
the methods and properties of ActiveX connector objects with other
server-side code, and extend the functionality provided with ArcIMS by
using other technologies such as ActiveX Data Objects (ADO).

AUDIENCE
This course is for developers who use Internet Information Server (IIS)
as their Web server platform and who want to utilize the ActiveX
connector to connect to the ArcIMS server.

PREREQUISITES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
It is recommended that participants complete "Introduction to ArcIMS"
or have equivalent experience with the terms and concepts used in
ArcIMS. Programming experience with ASP and VBScript is recommended.
Participants in this course should have experience with the following:
-Administering the IIS Web server
-Creating ASP pages
-Creating map services
-ArcIMS architecture

GOALS
-Review ASP techniques
-Become familiar with the ActiveX connector object model
-Implement navigation tools (pan, zoom, etc.) in a custom client
-Create layer lists and legends
-Create identify, query, and hyperlink tools
-Change feature rendering based on user choices
-Buffer and select features
-Work with the acetate layer
-Use address matching objects to perform geocoding
-Use ADO to query and manipulate nonspatial databases
