professional work designing, developing and executing geographic
information system (GIS) projects and methodologies. Primary duties:
manages GIS land management projects; performs specific GIS project work
for land management and assists with complex projects for the Department
such as land acquisition, database design and analysis, and develops the
link between land management databases and GIS; corrects boundaries of
parcel data with COGO software tools when final survey is available;
coordinates activities involving GIS projects; serves as Departmental
liaison to Information Resources Department for Oracle tools and
applications and provides assistance to coworkers with these tools;
develops, implements, and manages GIS data organizational structure and
GIS quality assurance methodology; prepares necessary documentation for
later use of data; provides necessary data to GIS central libraries and
project tracking system and ensures that all work meets District
standards; archives plot to the on-line GIS map library; assists in the
recruitment and interviewing of all GIS personnel; provides technical
input to administrative supervisors in review of all GIS personnel;
provides training to GIS intern and other land management GIS personnel;
and coordinates Departmental GIS training needs. Qualifications include:
a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in
engineering, planning, computer science, a physical or natural science,
or related field and three years of experience in geographic information
system analysis and cartographic design using ArcInfo or equivalent
software. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in
planning, or a physical, natural or engineering or computer science can
substitute for one year of the required experience; or an associate
degree from an accredited community college in computer science or a
technical program directly related to GIS and five years of geographical
information systems experience. Professional experience as described
above may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college
education.
