i am thinking of developing a historical gis library for leon county. i =
have lots of students and am always looking for projects for them to =
work on. my original idea was to develop some layers of impervious =
surfaces through time from aerial photographs to see if there is any =
correlation with runoff and flooding. i've decided to expand this into =
an ongoing project to digitize and otherwise compile historical data. =
some of the features i would like to collect include land use/land =
cover, roads, census data, agricultural data, and historical locations =
of dry cleaners and other potential sources of ground water =
contamination. i plan to collect photos from DOT, the PALMM collection =
and USDA. dry cleaners data will come from city directories.
i'm sending this email to solicit ideas for other sources of photos and =
historical data, and to invite suggestions for other types of features =
to collect that would be of interest to the gis user community. =20
