We love that book here. What's best is that you can go at your own pace
(we'd do half a day on the book, the other half on live jobs), you can
practice what you are learning right away (makes the information "stick"
better for me - you too, maybe?) and it doesn't break the budget.=20
=20
Same with the online course - from what I hear. I didn't do that one
myself. But DO check out the free seminars, if you haven't already. I
find them very helpful:=20

I just got back from San Diego - I can't tell you how valuable I found
that to be. I went to a bunch of white papers on Law Enforcement and GIS
(It's an interest of mine, not my job) but I found things that they do
that apply to what I do (nothing to do with law enforcement!)
=20
I am glad to hear about your lack of formal training. It makes me feel
better about my own background. (More Graphic Arts than Geography, to
tell the truth.) Actually - only one of us here has formal GIS training.
The rest of us kind of "picked it up", you know? I am glad to work at a
company that would take a chance on us and train us. I just LOVE my
job!!!

I just got that book at Amazon. It has been updated for ArcGIS
9.0. Very good book to start with. Even after several year's "trial
and error" learning I picked up quite a few tips. Just wish they would
upgrade the follow-on book for version 9.0. Actually, I've been doing
GIS since the early 90's and the course later this month is the first
formal GIS training I'll ever have taken.

I have two (2) users that need Introduction to ArcGIS
training. I checked ESRI's web site and found courses in Tampa and West
Palm; does anyone know of any training in this region that is going to
be offered (before the SHRUG Workshop)?
