shrug-l: how to create a permanent map from an mxd....

Almost forgot, if the computer someone uses to look at your map does NOT =
have
Arc-whatever installed (ArcMap, ArcInfo, ArcView, etc.), you must turn =
on the
"Embed all document fonts" under the FORMAT tab so they can see things =
such
as compass stars (roses), etc. correctly. That is because ArcView uses =
it's
own special character sets. The translation to other character sets =
that
Acrobat tries to do by default can be interesting to say the least.

The other option that I mentioned is actually called "Clip output to =
graphics
extent". This prevents ArcView from including a lot of extraneous data =
in
the PDF file, keeping it a reasonable size.

Also, raster data adds to the file size in a hurry, so only use the
resolution you need (e.g., if 1 meter/pixel resolution will do, use =
DOQQs, do
not use 6"/pixel high-resolution aerials).

Yes, that is what I was going to suggest. I export all my maps that I =
need
to send to other people in PDF format, it saves a tremendous amount of =
the
detail with relatively little overhead. Be sure to turn on the option =
to
limit the graphics to the frame region to save the most space.
