shrug-l: SQL server log file question ...

Hello,

Good morning!

I have an ArcSDE SQL server (2000) and the log file has grown excessively large (now it is 39 GB). I have a feeling that the large log file begins to take toll on the server performance. It is my understanding that the log files are for transaction purpose and its contents are temporary. I tried to shrink it, especially when transaction/connection activities are eliminated, but I couldn’t. Can someone on this list give some pointers what I am missing here?

Thanks in advance
