shrug-l: label word-wrap

Bret,
In the past we have used CAD or coverage annotation to control
placement. We have since switched to Geodatabase annotation. I came from
the CAD world and generally hate to use labels for any printed output. I
just don't have the control I like for cartographic output.

Thanks to all who responded.

Yes the answer is to use MAPLEX. While this is a free extension for
ArcINFO, it costs $2,500 for ArcVIEW users! I am using an evaluation
license to see if this extension is really worth its weight in salt! It
surprises me that no other ArcVIEW users have experienced a similar
problem, and nobody has scripted a solution.

That was going to be my suggestion the Maplex Extension.

The MAPLEX label engine (come std with ArcInfo 9.1) pretty well handles
that situation (I assume you are talking about labels).

Does anybody know of a script, or any other creative solution, that can
be used to wrap text so it remains within a polygon? I have looked
around on the ESRI support page, with no luck.
