Thank you very much to Bill Alfred, Mark Hodgkinson and Tripp Corbin for
all their suggestions. Everything came out to be to "publish the map to
the root folder"

Thanks again and happy Thanksgiving to everyone

Judith

Judith,

I just test my theory and it seems to work. Here is what I did. I have a
map document set to use relative path. The data and the mxd are all in
the same folder (m:\projects\Riverdale\arcview). It includes both
geodatabase and shapefile layers. I then published the map to the root
of the Riverdale folder with the following settings in Publisher.

Contents:

    include all layers

publish both data & layout views

Functionality:

    all selected

Security:

nothing selected but allow data packaging

Application:

open in ArcReader only is selected

Other:

    defaults

After I published the map, I copied the new pmf file and associated data
from a network drive to my local drive and disconnected my Ethernet
cable. I then opened the pmf with no problem. I then burn the pmf and
data to a CD and opened in on a couple of other computers all
successfully. Then I moved the pmf and data to different servers on our
network and again the pmf opened even on computers not connected to the
original M drive or share.

Maybe you issue is a network security problem.

I always set my map docs to have relative paths. But when I go
to the source tab, it shows D:\requests\Allan\Regions.shp. I went ahead
and recreated the mxd file first set the path to be relative and then
added data, published map and data, copied to the network and still
getting the same problem...I am still open for any other suggestions

Set your mxd to use relative paths. You do this by going to
File>Map Properties>Advanced. This will care across to your published
map. As long as the mxd or published map and the map data stay in the
same relative location to one another the map should work.

Subject: shrug-l: ArcMap layer paths vs. Map Publisher
paths

		Hello everyone,

I am trying to find out how to handle data paths from
ArcMap which puts the drive letter and get it to work on the map created
by publisher. Opening the file from the CD works, but as soon as it is
in a different location it does not work. I had saved the file with all
its needed files on the network and tried to access the published map in
the network, when I try to open it the map comes blank. I am not sure
how to correct this issue since ArcMap does not give any flexibility to
edit the path under the source tab.

Any suggestions are welcome and thank you to everyone
for the help.
