shrug-l: Split a column in attribute table

Greetings!
     You can extract (i.e., copy) the file to a new name IF IT IS A 
POINT FILE and then play with it using Excel, Access, or dBASE (or 
FoxPro).  Do not fool with the original file!!!  Polygon and line 
files cease to be usable if extracted form the Arc format.  Once you 
have your working copy, it is a simple (?) manner to create new 
fields and create your new data/information fields.
