OVERVIEW:
Collecting Utility Systems Data Using the ike304T
ike304T, a newly developed mobile data capture tool, was evaluated for
bulk GPS data collection for DoD Public Works utility infrastructure.
The tool integrates a GPS, GIS, compass and inclinometer, digital
camera, laser range finder, and mobile PC software into a single,
handheld device. Demonstration and evaluation of the ike304 was
performed for Fort Jackson, South Carolina as part of an initiative to
update and centralize planimetric, environmental, and utility
infrastructure data.
Everyone wants to get the best possible geographic position on the
object they are trying to locate. A picture would be great also as long
as you didn't have to remember which picture went with which object.
With the ike304, stand where ever you get good signal and with the laser
range finder, locate the object within 1000 meters. Then take a
picture, or more if needed, these picture(s) will be georeferenced and
hyperlinked to your object. Using custom forms, only the data you want
will be collected with helpful dropdown menus and limited entry fields.
