BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES:   

This is a highly technical OPS position in the Watershed Monitoring Section.
This position is a GPS Coordinator for the Division of Environmental
Assessment and Restoration and the Division of Water Resource Management
based in Tallahassee.  Tasks include: Technical writing of standards and
procedures, providing training and troubleshooting of resource grade Global
Positioning Systems, maintaining GPS Community Base Station, maintaining GPS
inventory, chairing GPS Standards workgroups, creating GIS maps. Other task
include: acting as a backup water quality sampler for surface and ground
water monitoring networks, maintaining field sampling equipment and equipment
inventories, sampling preparations, maintaining vehicles, maintaining
documentation logs, conducting stream habitat assessments and stream
condition index sampling, operating sampling pumps,  generators, water
quality meters, operating boats and all terrain vehicles, and assisting
section staff with other task involved with operating a statewide water
quality monitoring networks.   

  

Applicant is required to be able to work with a team, plan, organize, and
prioritize their work assignments accordingly. Applicant is also required to
be able to work alone and be a self starter. Knowledge and Experience using
computers is required. Knowledge and experience composing technical documents
is highly preferred. Knowledge and experience operating GPS equipment and
software is highly preferred. Knowledge and experience using ESRI GIS
software is highly preferred. Knowledge and experience operating and
maintaining mechanical equipment such as trucks, pumps, electrical equipment,
and boats is preferred.  Knowledge and Experience using water quality data
sondes is preferred.  Mechanical and boat handling skills are preferred. The
successful applicant must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able and
willing to communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in
writing with the general public, other government agencies, and staff.     

   

Over night travel is required less than 25% of the time.  Valid driver's
license is required.
