Back in early October, the volunteer steering committee for statewide
GIS coordination released a GIS Use Survey (details on the survey are
below). We are happy to report that nearly 200 individuals have taken
the survey, representing a broad range of GIS users within the state.

At the SHRUG workshop, we briefed on the results of the survey, and now
Martin Roche has volunteered to host a webinar for those who weren't
able to join us at SHRUG.

If you are interested, please join us for this webinar to review the
results of the survey --

Remember the volunteer steering committee for statewide GIS coordination
(yes, we are still meeting via teleconference) and the Strategic Plan
for Statewide GIS coordination (please see for more details)?

One of the recommendations made by that plan was that a statewide GIS
program office should be established within a state agency, most likely
the State CIO's office, which is known as the Agency for Enterprise
Information Technology (AEIT)

Recently, a survey was conducted to obtain information regarding the use
of GIS at state agencies to bolster the case that GIS should be
considered a "statewide enterprise information management technology".
It is my feeling (and hope!) that this process will culminate in at
least more coordination among state agencies, and hopefully grow to
include other stakeholders, and eventually, all of the recommendations
made in the strategic plan.

Looking towards those other stakeholders - i.e. county and city
government, Water Management Districts, Regional Planning Councils,
universities, and business, you are invited to participate in a further

The intent of this survey is to gather information to build a business
case for coordination of GIS within the State of Florida. Information
provided by this survey will assist in demonstrating both the cost and
benefits of GIS programs at various levels of government and business.

All entities are welcome to take the survey. In any reports or
presentations that are created based on this survey information will be
presented in summary only, to protect the confidentiality of individual

Completion of this survey is requested by October 15, 2010 but the
survey will remain on-line and additional submissions are welcome after
that date. Thank you in advance for your participation.
