Greetings!
      The choice of software depends on what you want to do with it 
and how much of the "bells and whistles" are needed. I find MapWindow 
does quite nice for my needs.  The cost is secondary to how well the 
software does 90% of your needs.  While you do not need a Cadillac to 
go to the store for a quart of milk, you do need some type of vehicle 
(unless you want to walk).  Analyze your need and then pick the 
software that does it best for the least cost.
